The Best Places to Hike in the UK

Whether you are looking for a relaxing walk along the coast or a challenging climb to the summit of one of the UK’s highest peaks, here are our best places to hike in the UK …

Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales

Not that we’re biased at all, but the Brecon Beacons National Park is one of our favourite places for a UK based hike! From riverside paths to magical woodlands and even dramatic mountains – the Brecon Beacons has something for everyone. Plus, it’s home to Pen y Fan – the highest peak in South Wales, at 886m.

Our TrekFest challenge involves hiking 25km or 50km through this stunning National Park, incorporating Pen y Fan, with stunning views of Llyn Cwm Llwch and the surrounding area.

Lake District, England

The Lake District is a World Heritage Site and the UK’s most visited National Park – and it’s not hard to see why! It’s home to two of England’s greats; Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, and Wastwater, England’s deepest lake.

The Lake District is full of interesting caves, picturesque waterfalls and of course the high peaks and glistening lakes the National Park is famous for. Due to its diverse landscapes, there is a walk to suit everyone in the Lake District!

Snowdonia, Wales

Snowdonia is another fantastic place to go hiking, with a walk to suit all abilities. From the challenge of climbing Snowdon or Cadair Idris to a leisurely walk around Llyn Tegid, Bala.

Snowdonia National Park is famous for its outstanding natural beauty and fascinating landscapes, plus it’s home to the highest mountain in England and Wales! In fact, the most concentrated area of 3,000ft peaks in Britain can be found in Snowdonia. Snowdon itself is a rugged, challenging climb – but the views from the summit make it all worthwhile.

Peak District, England

From steep limestone valleys to dramatic highlands, The Peak District National Park is a magnet for trekkers and one of the best places to hike in the UK. The Peak District is the UK’s original National Park and extends across Cheshire, Manchester, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Staffordshire.

The highest point in the Peak District is Kinder Scout, offering panoramic views as far as Snowdonia on a clear day. Plus, the National Park is home to multiple national and local trails waiting to be explored.

Rolling hills in the Peak District

Yorkshire Dales, England

The Yorkshire Dales is a fantastic place to spend time outdoors and offers extensive footpaths for all abilities. From short walks along rivers, rolling hills and through old stone villages to more challenging climbs to one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside are the best-known hills in the Dales and provide spectacular scenery of the surrounding area.

The Highlands, Scotland

The Scottish Highlands are home to impressive lakes, sandy beaches, fairy tale castles and an array of dramatic Munros. The landscape of the Highlands is exactly how you imagine Scotland to be; from rugged coastlines to the highest mountains, it’s an adventure playground waiting to be explored!

Plus, the Scottish highlands is home to the UK’s highest mountain – the mighty Ben Nevis.  Located near the town of Fort William, Ben Nevis is part of the Grampian Mountain range and a bucket list hike for many adventurers.
