We know that many of you have been eagerly awaiting the launch of our next TrekFest event, however after careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision not to run TrekFest in 2022. The rapid growth in popularity of our UK events over the last 2 years, combined with the recent and very welcome return of overseas travel, means that as a post pandemic small team we need to focus on our scheduled open challenges over the next 12 months.

We know that this will be disappointing news for many of you, but we hope to see you all on a different adventure with us in 2022! Many of you will have found TrekFest through taking part in another Global Adventure Challenges event, but for those of you who have found us through TrekFest, now’s the time to get exploring our wider range of incredible events!

TrekFest The Peaks – Conquered!

On August 31st 2019, hundreds of adventurers joined together to take part in TrekFest The Peaks!

TrekFest is our ultimate trekking challenges, set in the rugged Peak District National Park! Our challengers completed either the 25km or 50km route, conquered tough terrain and battled through mixed weather conditions to achieve their goals!

Our TrekFest Village proved to be a massive hit – home to our inflatable pub, chill out tepee, massage area and complimentary campsite! It was the perfect location to soak in the pre and post event atmosphere, and celebrate our achievements after conquering TrekFest 2019!

Are you interested in taking on the TrekFest challenge in 2020? Check out our TrekFest The Peaks reviews here and feel inspired!

Completed the Peaks 50km TrekFest this weekend; fab event. Well organised, great sign posting, and the food was fabulous (I am vegan and my options were great).

The event village was well laid out and the showers wonderful! The post event massage – invaluable.

Had a wonderful day!

Siobhan

It was our first 25km Trekfest, a very well organised event, from beginning until the end we were supported. All staff were friendly and encouraging, especially on those hills!!! Tough as it was we both enjoyed it, and look forward to next year. Big thank you to all the organisers!

Angie

I completed the 2019 TrekFest in the peaks. I did the 50k challenge and what a challenge. It’s a huge achievement one that will stick with me for as long as I have my marbles. But without the great organisation, friendly staff and well spirited entrants that challenge would have been so much harder. Thank you to the whole team at GAC.

Phillip

Fantasic staff with inspiring & positive attitudes who make every participant feel special. A great organisation with clear instructions pre post & during the event. Great facilities. An organisation with a genuine mission to make a difference in every way. In a nutshell – what’s in the tin is whats on the label 😍!! Refreshing in every way.

Michelle

The weekend was well organised, with all the information we needed before and during the event. The facilities were great and we felt able to relax and enjoy it all. There was a great atmosphere and I hope to see them again next year for the Brecon Beacons!

Abi

Brilliantly organised event (50k Peak District), excellent marshalling and directions. Food great, TrekFest village was mint!!! A great challenge with great support. Loved it!

Participants taking part in TrekFest 2019

I just completed the 50km Trekfest at the Peaks and the whole event was run so well, from signing up, to the onsite facilities to the marshalls on route. In particular the happy marshal who greeted us 3.5km before Checkpoint 3. I would definately do another challenge with this company (just maybe not for a while as my legs needs to rest 🤣) Thank you GAC!

Vicki

We took part in 25km TrekFest in the Peak District. Very well organised event, lovely staff and great encouragement along the way. Already thinking of coming back next year!

Kirstie

Awesome event management enjoyed everything about it Marshall’s were brilliant the food was delicious 😋 and the atmosphere was great. Thankyou.

Anita

Trekfest 2019 – Brilliant event, fantastically organised, no hiccups or issues! Staff were lovely and so supportive, would definitely do it again!

Louise

First timers for Trekfest 25k. The event was so well organised, the food was great… atmosphere brilliant, and the staff were, quite frankly the very best. There for encouragement every step of the way… I’m tired, a little bit broken but already I’m gearing up for next year!! Thank you to everyone at Team GAC!

Laura

My friend and I walked the 25km route and it was an amazing experience. The views, the people, the weather (!), the sense of achievement – all contributed to a great day. The organisation of the event was outstanding; everything was thought about and made for a very successful event.

What Time Does the Event Start?

The 50km trekking challenge will set off at approximately 7am, whilst the 25km will then set off at 9am on Saturday 31 August. All trekkers must attend a briefing 15 minutes before your start time.

You will have been provided with a full Kit List when signing up for the challenge. Please make sure that you bring all the items marked as mandatory, as they have been listed with your welfare in mind. Anyone who is deemed to be inappropriately equipped will not be permitted to take part.

The Peak District is located in the heart of England, and is a popular holiday destination. The national park attracts thousands of walkers, hikers and mountain bikers every year. The Peak District is full of charming villages, full of character and surrounded by stunning scenery and diverse landscapes!

Top 10 Facts About the Peak District

1. The Peak District National Park is officially the first National Park in the UK, founded in 1951. The 1932 Kinder Mass Trespass, held in the park, was the milestone event which led to the increase in public access to such areas, and then the establishment of national parks.

2. The National Park spreads over five counties; Cheshire, Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester – covering an area of 555 sq miles (1,440km²).

3. Over 13.25 million people visit The Peak District every year.

4. There are no actual mountains in The Peak District, however the highest point is Kinder Scout at 636 meters.

5. 38,000 people live in the Peak District National Park.

6. The UK’s first long distance footpath, The Pennine Way, starts in The Peak District, near Edale. In total there are over 2,000km of public footpaths and over 100km of cycling trails in the National Park.

7. The Peak District is famous for its caves – with the deepest being over 400 meters below the ground. People still lived in the caves until 1910.

8. The “Peak District” name derives from peac, an Old English word meaning hill.

9. The national parks symbol is a millstone. Quarries have been operating here since prehistoric times and hundreds of millstones still lie scattered across the national park.

10. The Peak District is home to many filming locations including Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess, the BBC’s Jayne Eyre and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

How To Get There

It is possible to reach the national park by train, bus or car. The Peak District is in close proximity to Manchester, Sheffield and Derby – all of which are part of the National Rail Network, with links to a range of villages within the Peak District.

The National Express Coach (441) runs daily from London to Manchester, stopping off at Bakewell. Then the TransPeak bus service runs through the heart of the Peak District. For more information on reaching The Peak District by public transport, check out the Peak District National Park website.

If you are driving to the Peak District, the area is within close proximity to both the M1 and M6. There are 27 free car parks within the national park, managed by The Peak District National Park Authority. Check them out here.

TrekFest The Peaks is just around the corner and here is everything you need to know about the UK’s ultimate trekking challenge!

The Event Village

The TrekFest event village is located at Hope Showground, Castleton (S33 8RZ). Registration will be open from 7pm until 9pm on Friday 31 August and then from 6am until 8:15am on Saturday 1 September. If you are taking part in the 50km challenge then you must register before 6:30am on the Saturday.

The event village is the perfect location to soak up the pre and post event atmosphere and will be open from 5pm on the Friday – so that those who are camping can bring their tents and get set up in our camping area. There will be toilet and shower facilities available as well as caterers and water points on the event site.

Make sure you join us for an awesome BBQ available on the Friday night as well as making the most of the inflatable pub, which will be open on the Friday and Saturday – the perfect place to meet your fellow trekkers and celebrate with them after completing your challenge! You will also be able to purchase breakfast on both the Saturday and Sunday morning – please note we only accept cash payments at the TrekFest Village.

Feel free to bring along your friends and family to support you on your trekking adventure and to cheer you on over that finish line! If your friends and family would like to join you camping for the weekend then a cost of £10 per person will apply (children 12 and under are free).

During Your Challenge

It’s challenge time! You will begin your trek at either 7am (50km trekkers) or 9am (25km trekkers) on Saturday 1 September – remember to make sure you have all the correct kit with you (and snacks to keep you fuelled along the way!)

You will be fully supported on your TrekFest adventure from start to finish – there will be marshalled checkpoints providing complimentary snacks and refreshments, support vehicles, mountain leaders and a hot meal half way through on the 50km route.

Remember – this is not a race; make sure you have rest stops when you need them and keep hydrated along the way! This said, please be mindful that there is a maximum time allowed to complete both routes; 17 hours 40 minutes (50km) and 8 hours 50 minutes (25km), and specific times you will need to reach the checkpoints by.

If you are taking part on your own – don’t worry, the camaraderie among our TrekFesters are second to none – supporting each other along the way and creating friendships that last a lifetime and not forgetting our awesome event crew who will be supporting you throughout!

Once You’ve Crossed the Finish Line!

As soon as you complete TrekFest 2018 you will receive a finishers medal and t-shirt, celebratory drink and a hot meal – and don’t forget to enjoy your post event massage! It is then time to relax and reflect back on your incredible achievement – enjoy time in the post event chill out zone or grab a pint at our inflatable pub! You will then need to vacate our event village by 10:30am on the Sunday.

TrekFest results will then go live in the participants area in the week following the event – and don’t forget to share your photos and experiences with us in your dedicated TrekFest 2018 Facebook Group.

All other information including kit lists, route previews and elevation profiles are available on the participant area on the website and feel free to give us a call on 01244676454 or email us at info@trekfest.org.uk if you have any further questions.
